Band Current Happenings:

  • We are currently working on music for our spring concert.

Band Announcements:

  • We are kicking off our Butter Braid fundraiser on January 12th.  This is usually a wonderful fundraiser for the band.  Forms and money will be due on January 28th.  Please be sure to read the instructions passed out with the order form.

  • We are excited for our Disney Trip that is coming up in March. 

    • Students:  We will host three afterschool rehearsals for those attending the Disney trip on February 27th, March 6th, and March 13th

    • There will be a required parent meeting at our next booster meeting on February 10th at 7:00PM in the BHS Band Room.  If your child is going on the trip, a parent will need to be in attendance; this meeting is required by the Tipton County Schools Board of Education.  Here, we will go over the itinerary for the trip, distribute permission slips, and answer questions.

  • Spring Jazz Band:

    • Jazz band rehearsals will take place on Mondays until 4:30PM in the BMS Band room beginning February 23rd.

    • Below is a sign-up link.  Sign-up is now open.  The last day to sign up is February 9th.  Once a student signs up, they will be required to attend all rehearsals.  These rehearsals will be tied into their grade.

  • Spring Concert – February 26th:

    • Our next concert is on Thursday, February 26th, at 7:00PM in the BHS Gymnasium.

    • Our attire will be artist black; please see the artist black guidelines later in the document. 

    • Itinerary:

      • 5:45PM – Band Room Opens

        • We will need a crew of students here at this time to move chairs, stands, the podium, and percussion equipment to the gym lobby.

      • 6:00PM – Set up the Gym

        • We will need a small crew to help set up everything.

      • 6:30PM – Call Time in proper attire.

        • Everyone will be in the gym in the set-up for warm-up, tune, and spot-check the music.

        • Remember that this is an important time, as we will need to get used to the acoustics of the space.

        • Those not in the proper attire will not be allowed to perform.  If someone has a problem acquiring the proper attire, please see Mr. Mayo.

      • 7:00PM – Concert Performance

  • On February 20th, the Band Boosters will be hosting a BMS Dance as a fundraiser for the band.  Parent chaperones and some student volunteers will be needed.  More information is to come.

  • Recital – We are excited to once again have our spring recital on May 16th.  See the information later in this document for recital information.

  • Spring Percussion Ensemble Sign-up has already happened.  Students will begin rehearsing on Wednesdays beginning January 14th afterschool until 5:00PM.  For those who signed up, participation will be tied into their grade, as this chamber ensemble is highly dependent on one another for success.  They will perform at the University of Memphis Percussion Festival on April 11th and the final spring concert on May 1st.  More information about the Percussion Festival will be shared on April 11th.

  • High School Percussion Spring Training

    • High School Percussion spring training will start on January 27th.

    • Spring training will take place from 3:00PM-5:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the semester in the BHS Band room.

    • If a student wishes to be a part of the 2026-2027 percussion section, they must attend all of the spring training sessions.

    • Students are allowed one unexcused absence from spring training for the semester.  If more than one occurs and they wish to be part of the section, they will need to meet with Mr. Mayo and the percussion staff.

    • We understand that conflicts and illness can arise.  If this occurs, please communicate with Mr. Mayo and the percussion staff.

    • There is a bus that can transfer students from BMS to BHS.  Mr. Maness and Mr. Mayo will be sharing that bus information with students soon.

  • Information about Winter Guard will be shared soon.

  • Information about applying for leadership for the 2026-2027 school year will be released closer to the end of the semester.  Leadership positions normally entail a playing portion, written/typed essay portion, and an interview.  Drum majors normally additionally work on a series of conducting tasks and prepare some conducting excerpts.

  • February 12th-14th – All-West Band Clinic in Downtown Memphis – Required parent meeting also will be at the 10th Booster Meeting

  • February 20th – BMS Dance hosted by the Band Boosters

  • February 26th - Spring Semester Concert #1

  • March 15th-18th – Disney Trip

  • April 11th – University of Memphis Percussion Festival

  • April 14th – Band Booster Meeting – 7:00PM in the BHS Band Room

  • May 1st - BHS Band End of the Year Concert– 7:00PM at the BHS Gymnasium

  • May 5th - BHS Band Banquet – 6:30PM in the BHS Cafeteria

  • May 8th – BMS Band Spring Concert – 6:30PM in the BMS Gymnasium

  • May 14th – BHS Graduation – The BHS Band is required to perform.

  • July 13th-17th – New Member/Freshman/Guard/Percussion/Section Leader Camp

    • New Members/Freshman will meet from 6:30AM to 11:30AM

    • Guard, Percussion, and Section Leaders will meet 6:30AM to 3:30PM

  • July 20th-31st - Full High School Band Camp

    • Attendance is mandatory to participate in High School Band. 

    • We do not meet on weekends.

    • Camp will meet from 6:30AM to 3:30PM

  • August 4th and 6th – Post-Band Camp Evening Retention Rehearsals.

    • Attendance is mandatory to participate in High School Band.

    • Rehearsals will take place from 6:00PM to 8:00PM
