Uniform Guidelines

Student Uniform Responsibility

-Wear your uniform with pride.  Respect and care for the uniform

-Uniforms are not allowed to be taken home.  The uniforms will be stored in the band hall.  You will be issued the uniform at the beginning of each event and it must be returned after performance.

-You must carry a personal bag for each football game and competition.  This bag must contain your black band shoes, black sock (solid black, no designs), change of clothes, band T-shirt and personal items.  Note: During the cool weather season you might want to bring along a jacket.

Student Care of Uniforms

-Uniform bags will be identified by your name and contain ONLY uniform jacket, pants, baldric, gauntlets and gloves.

-Take care when putting on the uniform.  Jackets zip up the back.  DO NOT zip and then put on over your head.

-Be careful with the uniform.  Use the garment bag as a barrier between the ground and uniform should you need to lay it down.  Avoid leaning against brick or abrasive surfaces that might snag the material.  Avoid eating while wearing the uniform.  Should a spill or stain occur, report it immediately so it can be cleaned.

-Do not wear jewelry, watches, earrings, etc.

-All long hair will be pinned up under the hat.

-There are no pockets in the pants; therefore NO items [especially cell phones] should be carried onto the performance field.

-You must wear close fitting shorts under your uniform pants and a dark t-shirt (no tank tops or string tops) underneath the uniform jacket.  These precautions will prevent sweat staining of the uniform.

-Always hang up your uniform correctly, the way you received it.  Be sure the wings on the jacket have been turned in to avoid crushing.

-Avoid getting the hat wet. Do not pull the string carrier out.

-You will be responsible for any lost part or damage to the uniform while in your possession.  Replacement of a full uniform is $285.00.    Replacement gloves are $5.00 per pair.  Single gloves will not be sold.

 Competitions and away football games

You will be informed by Mr. Findley when and where to report in full uniform.  Arrive early enough to allow yourself time to dress and be dressed before “call time”.

-Uniforms are issued from the uniform trailer at away games and competitions.  Change into uniforms.  Use the buddy system to acquire assistance in zipping the jacket and putting on gauntlets.   Have a buddy inspect to confirm that you have everything on correctly.

NOTE: Chaperones will be available for any assistance needed, simply report to the uniform trailer for help.

There may be some gravel dust on your uniform from previous performance, if so please report to the trailer to have your uniform brushed down.  Our chaperones and additional support staff are always more than willing to help.

-Keep your garment bag and hangar with your personal possessions.  DO NOT leave bags hanging outside the bus.  There will be consequences for leaving any uniforms materials, bags, boxes, etc. outside the bus unattended.

-Once you have put on the uniform and stored your uniform bag on the bus, please return to the hat table beside the uniform trailer where a chaperone will get your hat and insert the plume.  Hat boxes will be left with the Chaperones.

-Before traveling, Mr. Findley and Mr. Womack will hold a uniform inspection.  Refer to “individual responsibilities” section in the handbook.

-Boosters MAY have socks and gloves for sale at each performance.  These items will not be for sale after inspection!  Remember, the irresponsibility of one individual can possibly affect the  whole band’s score.

After Performance -time allowing

*Follow these guidelines unless you are keeping the uniform for the awards ceremony. (Seniors)

Please turn in your uniform immediately after the awards ceremony.

-After performance we will return to our buses where you will:

-Step 1. Turn in your plume,

-Step 2. Turn in your hat. (You will be given a paper towel to wipe out the inside of the hat.)

-Step 3. Return to the buses and change into band T-shirt and jeans/shorts.  PLEASE remember deodorant!

-Step 4. Hang up your uniform properly.  Have a buddy inspect to see if your uniform is hung properly.

-Step 5. Return your uniform bag to the uniform trailer, UNZIPPED.  The Chaperones will inspect the uniform to make sure everything is hung properly.  Wait for the Chaperone to inspect the uniform and give you the okay to go.  If there is problem, your uniform will not be accepted and you will report to the back of the line while you correct the problem.  Get it right the FIRST time so no one’s time is wasted.

Note: DO NOT leave any personal items in your uniform bag especially your socks.   Any personal items left in the bags will “disappear”, never to be seen again.

-Chaperone Volunteers will be responsible for inspecting and hanging uniforms to air out after each event.

Home Football Games

-Uniforms will be issued from and returned to the band hall uniform room.

-You may get your own hat.  Plumes will be inserted by volunteers.

-VOLUNTEERS will be responsible for inspecting and hanging the uniforms to air out after each event.

CLEANING

-The booster volunteer parents are taking responsibility for washing the uniforms.  Should you abuse the uniform and need an extra cleaning outside the normal cleaning schedule, you will be charged $5.00 each time.

With so many band members trying to acquire their uniform and get dressed at the same time, we must adhere to these policies and procedures.  Our uniforms are precious & expensive items that are difficult to replace.  Many of you worked really hard through fundraisers to acquire them.  Please take care of our uniform and pay attention to how you wear it.  Remember:  In the eyes of the visual judges, your uniform’s cleanness, neatness, and proper fit are just as important as how well you march the drill and play the music.
